Cricket tournament of L&T Infotech(Dhoom Machaale)

It’s a good idea to organize a cricket tourney with the team comprising of 6 member ( I remember the Hong Kong Six’s) .I was part of this tourney , unfortunately for the second time I was replacing Bala, who as going to his native for some work, ( incidentally, I had to replace Anish in the 11 a side tourney as a 11th batsman ). The tourney had a record 27 teams and each team had a 5 male players along with a lady in the side. The format was very good with 8 ball per over and each batsman had to face all 8 balls with negative scoring for Out’s and extra runs for wide and no-balls.

Our 11 members’ original cricket team was split into two teams with Chandra leading my team and Praveen leading the other team. First match was on March 1st, my last day in Bangalore L&T Infotech (hopefully I will be back there after some time). Match started with our librarian renuka blasting the bowling all over the ground which followed by amith’s super cover drives, all of us contributed for the score with the score reaching more than 100 in 6 overs, our bowling destroyed the opponents with their score reaching mere 30 odd in 6 overs, it was a cake walk for us . The next match was scheduled after 2 weeks, as all of our team members were traveling back to their home towns. Meanwhile Praveen’s team got a bye to the next round.

On March 15th, the next match was held, that day was very sunny and ground was hard, again Chandra lost toss and we were allowed to bat. The team had a bad start with renuka scoring some 12 odd runs, again amith scored some runs, but it was less for us, Chandra, vinay, chidu and me chipped in with some runs and score reached above 100. Next our bowling clicked and the opponents score was in negative, it was a challenge for us and we again won the match with ease. Meanwhile Praveen’s team also won with some good performance by Anish and Praveen himself, star of the day was acdi with his all-round performance. I had to rush back to Mysore a s I was traveling to kolkatta the next day for the campus recruitment, with injury in my hand due to excessive diving it was very painful for me. On this day I got my fielding form back. I remembered my college days where I was very good at fielding (still I am, but body aches)

The next match (March 22nd) was very easy for us and Praveen’s team faced a tough challenge. After returning back from kolkatta, I had to rush back to Mysore and again to Bangalore for the match. The match saw renuka back in form and our star of the day was Bala with 26 runs and we scored 111 with some good backup runs by all except me ( I scored -9 ) and of course the EXTRAS. The field was green which suited me for my fielding. The bowling started and amazingly the opponents were run out 12 times with me involving in almost 10 run outs , good fielding and bowling saw our opponents struggle to score runs , Last ball of the match saw all the fielders moved to offside ( it was the repetition of Steve Waugh’s field). We were into semifinals at last. Unfortunately for Praveen’s team it was a very bad day with their team even though they were good , lost to Core logic’s team in the last over , all due to bad fielding and lack of spirit. On this day I got my fielding was good again my clothes was filled with mud color due to excessive diving).

Come the doom day ( march 29th ), we had to play 2 matches ( one match if we lost the semis) , we were determine d to go to the next round , the match was tough as the opponents had scored victory very convincingly in the previous round against core logic team. Again Chandra lost the toss and we had to bat, all things went horribly wrong as we were in deep trouble by the end of 3rd over with unnecessary out’s, then came the magic act of Bala with some good runs, I and Chandra stabilized the innings, but the score was very less to defend (45 runs) in 5 overs, Due to very heavy rains previous day, the field was horrible and all fielders were struggling to hold the ball. We grouped during the innings break, we had full confidence in us that we will be able to defend the score and we just needed to put 0 extras in the entire match. The first over was good with the opponents score reaching not more than 10 runs, and then came the magic arm of amith. He got the batsmen out 4 times with the score of the opponents plunging to negative we were back in the game. Good overs by Chandra, chidu and me saw the opponents to get 18 runs from last over (8 balls). Then came our joginder Sharma i.e. Bala; he bowled beautifully to make the batsmen to score only 10 runs and we won by 8 runs, it was a very close match for us, we made it for the finals. Support was there from the entire audience. Thanks to Praveen’s whistles along with Anish and adi. Sandesh had also come to see the match.

We were playing finals for the first time, all of us dressed in RED, this reminded of MANU’s colors. (All of us are MANU fans). Final was very tough as the opponents had a good bowling strength. Finally when our HR Manager , Rosaalee tossed the coin Chandra was lucky to win the toss , he made a wrong choice this time, he opted to chase , but it went horribly wrong as our batting failed with first 3 overs resulting in just 3 runs, time was very bad for us ,we were going down in a very bad manner. Some hope came after that with me Chandra and vinay chipping in with some runs. Our final score was 42 runs, that’s it very bad performance. Finally when our bowling started, we had lost all hopes but we were ready to give a fight, but in the over bowled by amith all went horribly wrong with the batsmen scoring some 20 odd runs making it easy for them to win the match , it was very hot and all of were tired ( even opponent team were struggling to run) , in the final over the I had to take 3 wickets with not allowing the batsman to score 3 runs, which was very tough, though I took a wicket , I was not able to prevent them from defending their score easily. At last we ended on the loosing side, not a problem it was very good performance that was given by us in the entire tourney with all of the team members scoring runs and getting wickets when it needed the most.

It was a good experience to play a cricket tourney like this. Also the ground was adjacent to the HAL airport’s compound. I had a chance to take some good snaps of Aircraft photos notably British Airways and Singapore airways. Also some good videos of Plane landing and take off, not to forget bala’s commentary. Thanks to Arun gaikwad and his team who organized this tourney in a very good and professional way. (Unluckily this Mysore office won’t do such things all are just more focused on sitting in office for more than 10 hours a day and objecting what people do in a professional way , sadly I miss Bangalore office a lot , I am hoping to get back to Bangalore in a short time , hope all the CTP mangers’ listen to this.) Day ended with a good treat by Chandra. (It was a surprising one) for us. Photos are with this post.

Trip to Hyderabad

Finally i had an opportunity to travel on campus recruitment assignment. this trip was to Hyderabad. this trip happened on the 9th and 10th of February 2008. day before the trip It was a very hectic Friday for me. I had organized a treat for my L&T InfoTech’s cricket team as I had a due of 2 treats for them (1 for getting 15K in paper presentation and one for getting 2nd rank in my M.Tech). Treat got over at 11.30 PM; I stayed at boys’ place. After reaching home as usual our hero Praveen and boys played chess and we watched movie, it was 2.30 when all went to sleep. I watched “pursuit of happyness” on bala’s creative vision M until 4.30 AM. I was ready at 4.50 AM. At 5AM got call from kavita to go to airport. We both were traveling to Hyderabad where we would be joined by qualcomm people. By 6 AM we were in flight after check in. I wanted a sleep badly, but the personal entertainment system of KF airlines didn’t allow me to sleep (I love music), so plugged earphone and started listening to music. After leaving Bangalore early morning it was the first flight for me after many years, I lost a day’s sleep. We reached Hyderabad at 9AM and we traveled to L&T guest house from there we were joined by Murali, Tirumala and team. We reached IAE, Dindigul at 11.30 AM. It was grateful for me to be in Hyderabad after 22 years. Good roads and nice city to be in.

The test finished at 3PM and we were offered with good Andhra food at the college. After taking leave from the college we reached the guest house at 4.30 PM. The response from the students was good with more than 1K students attending the recruitment drive. It was first campus recruitment drive for me. We managed very well and finished in time as we had good support from college people. After taking a short nap at the guest house it was serious business for the team. The paper correction finished at 1AM with tirumala helping us to finish the same. Poor guy he had to take interviews on next day .I and kavita were to catch Chennai flight for the Nellore recruitment drive. We had to pack up very early to catch kingfisher’s 6.30 AM flight to Chennai. So I lost one more day’s sleep. We reached airport at 5.30 AM and the check in was very strict at airport. Meanwhile I was very unhappy the way the luggage was handled. I had a crystal gift presented to me by the college people which broke duet improper handling by the security people. It was an ATR flight to Chennai, 50% of the aircraft was empty. I had a small nap during the journey; unfortunately I didn’t take any photos in the flight. We reached Chennai at 7.45 AM. From flight it was a very good view of Chennai. The Hyundai factory was amazing from the top, the track that they have resembles the f-1 track, and here I didn’t take any photos (very bad for me). As soon as I got out of the aircraft I got the feel of Chennai. The college people had sent us the cab. Vishwa and Guru of core logic team were waiting for us. We traveled to Nellore on a very god road and reached college at 11.30 AM, without any breakfast. The flight’s breakfast was horrible (mallyaji, at least improve the breakfast in your airlines).
After a small discussion, we started the test at 12 noon. With almost 800 students attending the recruitment drive it was a good crowd for us. But unfortunately I found it difficult to make them understand how to fill the OMR sheet. They were asking questions in Telugu, I seriously can’t converse in Telugu, but somehow managed to clear their doubts. Luckily for kavita it was home turf and we had a person who could talk in Telugu. It was very helpful for us in Hyderabad also. After finishing test at the venue, we were taken to Nellore city where our accommodation was booked. The college had provided us with a good hotel, Guru and vishwa were totally tired and they took a quick nap and we both (kavita and I) started evaluating papers. I was sure that the shortlists would be less than 50. After finally finishing the test paper evaluation, the problem started with the lappie, to hell with it we had problem with MS-EXCEL, and I remembered our MS guru Dileepa at that time. Finally we managed to give the results at 11PM and had a dinner. I was supposed to leave Nellore at 1AM as I had to be in Bangalore for my training on .Net. So I didn’t sleep at all and was watching TEN sports as some good football match was coming. All others were staying back and were to return on Tuesday morning after completing the recruitment drive. After saying bye to kavita (guru and viswa were in deep sleep) I left Nellore at 1AM to reach Chennai. God the driver was amazing; he had traveled to Chennai twice in 24 hours (round about 600KMS in a day). I had a sleep in the car itself; the driver was busy driving and watching a Telugu movie. I had told him to drive slowly and take break if he needed to. He dropped me at Chennai airport at 4.30 AM I was supposed to check in at 5.15 AM. It was very unfortunate for me I had to wait until 5.30 to get my boarding pass and I had to stand in a huge queue to get my security check done. I was cursing myself at that time that y did these people have put me into training on .Net. Finally got on to Jet lite flight at 5.55 AM I had no chance of a sleep as the flight journey was only 45 minutes. I didn’t have breakfast also. Flight was good and journey was also comfortable. Finally I landed in HAL airport at 6.55 AM. I had to rush back to office. I reached the office at 8AM, had a small nap and got back to business as usual. That was the end of my Hyderabad trip.

It was first of my trips to the campuses, it was nice to be par of this amazing team, thanks to Ajay , shubha , Vishnu( for booking tickets in good flights) and of course my Navini manager , paulose for allowing me to go for the recruitment process. I was very unhappy and was let down when I was forced to drop my travel to Delhi recruitment drive. This was a gift for me in return. Also thanks to kavita, who was part of the recruitment drive. Of course my camera was idle for a long time as I was unable to take any photos. In my next trip I would be surely taking many more photos.

Kolkatta Trip Day 4

After hectic trip from kalyani, we reached Future guest house at 11PM that night , very tired and dusted wanted to get a bad night's sleep . But food was waiting for us . Had a good food with a very nice hospitality.Went for sleep as the day was tiring with more than 5 hrs of journey. Next morning we were supposed to pack the show by 6 PM as we had a flight to catch from Kolkatta back to Bangalore at 8 PM.Next morning as i and vidya were ready to leave to Heritage college ,we suddenly found that we had to take more number of answer sheets , that was done and we left to Future at 9.30 from heritage college. On the way a huge traffic jam had already happened, this was a normal feature of Kolkatta. The driver was telling us about this. Suddenly he hit a Sumo and broke the mirror. A friendly fight happened on the road with the other driver asking our cab driver to pay the damages for which our driver agreed. Funny thing was that he never paid the same.We reached Heritage at 11AM and at future Krithika along with Shubha had begun the test. Luckily there was no problem for us in beginning the test at Heritage with all the student volunteers helping us a lot. at 2PM one batch was complete and i was ready with results meanwhile Vidya was managing test for another 150 students. Meanwhile shubha came to Heritage as she was supposed to carry out the next process for the students. It was the first time we met after Shubha's marriage as i had been transferred to Mysore. As me and vidya along with Krithika were supposed to leave for Bangalore , we took leave from Heritage handing over the rest of the process to Shubha . Luckily i had some time to take the snaps of the college. I reached future college at 5.10 PM , funny thing was still i forgot to buy sweets as there was no sweet shops on the way . So thought of taking sweets on the way to Airport. As soon as we reached future we had some 14 students to be interviewed ,which i finished within 20 minutes as it was very easy for me to reject as they were not even answering some simple basic questions. So got ready to leave to Bangalore as Krithika was busy in announcing the results, Finally took some snaps at the guest house and left to airport in the car .On our way back to airport, it was huge huge traffic , we had lost all hopes of reaching airport on time. With no tickets in our and and stuck in jam there was no chance for all 3 of us to buy sweets. The Indian airlines help desk was also not working as krithika tried to get the flight updates. The driver was driving very horribly ,his duty was to take us to the airport by 7.30 PM. He avoided at leas 10-15 accidents by the time he took us to the airport. On the way we cursed ourselves for not shopping in kalyani. Finally reached airport at 7.20 PM. Then all the drama started. Krithika was able to get her ticket and she went to the baggage check in counter to get the boarding pass, meanwhile me and Vidya got all the luggage and went to the counter to get the ticket, then we find that our names were written in the wrong manner, it took 20 minutes for us to get into the airport lounge. After all the drama we were able to check in our baggage until then there was no announcement of the flight delay . When our security check was going on we were informed about the flight delay . At that time we were not supposed to go out. so final chance of getting some Bengali sweets was lost. Jumped on to the flight at 8.15 PM it was a surprise waiting for all 3 of us . we were travelling in business class . All 3 of us had a good flight back to home with some snaps on board. I was able to take the videos also . Finally reached Bangalore at 11PM . Krithika went in one cab back home and i was accompanying Vidya to her home and i reached our Boy's house at 12AM. That was the end of my kolkatta trip . It was very sad for me that i was not able to get some gifts and sweets for my boys and to my home. It was due to sudden change in plan. But it was a very nice experience for me as i was in eastern part of India for the first time and got to meet some good people. I am always looking for such trips in future.I am very sorry for not mentioning the Hyderabad & Chennai trip. I will be having one more post for it in future .

Trip to Kalyani (Koloni as in Bengali).

Morning 7.30 AM I was told to be ready, which I was able to make it up. Had a nice breakfast at sojourn hotel, we checked out as we were supposed to stay at “Future College” Guest house on that night. Trip was a bit enjoyable with the driver taking us into inner rural Kolkata. The narrow roads, where only one vehicle would be able to pass old buildings… cool view of traditional kolkatta, nice way to enjoy the morning. Hot and humid weather was making us boring; meanwhile my Zune got switched off due to battery drain. So no music. Passed time by talking to Vidya and Krithika. Finally reached kalyani at 11 AM, JIS group was the first visit , where we dumped all our luggage and took the test kit to Govt engg college , the test started at the Govt college at 12 noon with one single batch which we completed by 2PM. Again volunteers were good for us with very helpful natured guys. Then I and Vidya were supposed to return to JIS where we had to do the short listing and finally at 4 PM the results were declared with only 12 getting short listed for the next round. Instead of sending the students to JIS the kalyani govt college PO asked any one of us to come to his college to conduct the GD round, after heavy negotiations I went to Govt Engg College to do the GD.

Again communication problem for the candidates. Had to reject 8 people with one guy being rejected due to his stammering, it was very painful for me to reject that guy, he was technically good, after his interview he told me that CTS had rejected him for this stammering (I wish I had that guy in our organization, unfortunately some good offer will be awaiting for that guy). After the selection process I had to rush back to JIS for one more GD session, I was very frustrated with the way the people made me to come back to JIS, I was taken all around kalyani with the university staff and I was finally dropped to the JIS, all along the way, the hammering talk of the PO for so many rejections in his college. God IT industry can’t take people who are just dumb.

After doing GD at JIS and final offers we wanted to move to Kolkatta with the Future college’s PO , but Vidya wanted to shop for sarees , we were taken to Kalyani’s market for the shopping , I was not able to purchase anything cse we were supposed to leave kolkatta on Thursday . So I dropped the idea of shopping. What a tragedy there was a shocking message that was waiting for all of us; it was the return journey back to Bangalore.

And after shopping went back to kolkatta with future college’s placement officer. Reached and had a nice dinner. Rest in the next post. Still more to go, will continue….

Kolkata Trip Day 2

After a hectic night trying to find a hotel, it was 1 AM when I went to sleep. I was informed that i had to travel to Durgapur 3 hrs from kolkatta and I would be alone and I had to complete the written test and come back again to kolkatta. Oh it was a hectic trip i thought. Morning 5 AM, got a call from the placement officer, Krithika and Vidya had made the baggage ready for me. I left Kolkata at 6 AM. Funny once again, forgot take snaps during travel. As always ... I had nice small naps during the trip to Durgapur with interruptions from the PO with small discussions on current IT scenarios. I reached Durgapur @ 8.30 AM where i was introduced to the college asst PO. The strength of students was huge, i had to give a brief talk about the organisation , which took some 20 minutes .After wards arrange for the test and start off with it , Luckily the volunteers were helpful with all of these people joining L&T Infotech in 2008. Test finished @ 3 PM . During the test all volunteers were busy asking me questions on the company and my personal life. I remembered my college days where i was in the same place and used to interact with the company people. I took leave from the college at 4 after having a light Bengali lunch (without Paneer). during travel back to kolkatta i had a chance to take some photos which are here...... finally reached kolkatta at 6.30 PM , i had been told to come to CIT where Krithika and Vidya were having a campus recruitment , that day was horrible for them .when we left , the students told that there was a concert of KK as part of their college fest, we were in no mood to stay back , as one more travel was awaiting us the next day to Kalyani ( 1.5 hrs from kolkatta) . Way back we traveled through the heart of Kolkatta was able to see the famous spots (Victoria memorial, Eden garden, Howrah bridge, Missionaries of charities.....) finally the Tram was visible... unfortunately no photos here.....

Had a nice dinner at hotel and went back to sleep as Vidya and Krithika continued with the paper correction. The next day's schedule was to travel to Kalyani where 2 campus recruitments were to be held. The details in next post.

My first East india Trip - 1

It was fantastic to visit Kokatta ( East India) for the first time. It was my HR team who helped me to get there for the campus recruitment. The journey was bit hectic as the bus from Mysore to Bangalore took me 3 hrs and the flight to kolkatta took me 3 hrs. unfortunately our flight was not delayed. It was a chaotic experience in Bangalore airport as it was Sunday and many flights were delayed. Finally manged to sneak into the flight with a lot of huff and puff. The flight was full of our "Mosquitoes" , i wandered how come these uninvited guests came to the flight....

Luckily the announcement from the flight attendant came " We will spray the non toxic insecticide and you can close your nose and breathe normally!!!!" . Good that flight took off with less mosquitoes and the next stop was Hyderabad, i thought that we would land in the new GMR airport, but on asking the air hostess she said it will not be landing in the new airport. so my chance of taking some good snaps of the Hyderabad's airport was ruined off.

The flight to Kolkata was 1.5 hrs with some good food served by the KF airlines, also i was busy in chalking out the plans for the next three days with my HR and simultaneously listening to some good music. the next stop was kolkata, nice airport with no crowd , was able to get out of the airport in 15 mins to hotel in Salt lake city . It was just opposite to the Salt lake city Stadium. Well i will be telling in detail all my campus visits in the next posts....
