Favorite Movies of Mine..

After my music favorites, here is a post that describes my all time favorite movies. I have been a movie watcher since child. I still remember the days when I was taken to movie by my parents and one funny thing is that I have never bunked to classes to watch moviesL. Unfortunate though, as many of you would laugh at this. Watching movies were confined only to TV as friends circle was never so enthusiastic to go to movies. Even in engineering days and during my work I missed the opportunity to go to movies. As the Bangalore gang always teases me when they go to movies on weekends, I really miss that chance. Hopefully in future I might start going to movies with my partner or my friends. Let me wait for that. But thanks to the movies supplied by my friends, which are downloaded using the internet and some purchased ones, I am able to watch them on my computer. I like all types of movies, nothing much particular. Though I watched Kannada films first, then some Hindi and after some years I stuck to English movies.

If I find time I will be watching the latest Indian movie flicks. Ok here are my favorite movies until date not in any order, hope some of the movies will also be a favorite of yours also.

1. Pursuit of happyness: This movie is a real story of “Chris gardener”; the movie can be watched again and again. The acting of will smith is amazing; sadly he lost out an Oscar for this movie. After seeing this movie it makes people to realize how people struggle to come up in life.

Plot: The film begins in 1981 in San Francisco, California. Linda and Chris Gardner live in a small apartment with their son, Christopher. Chris has invested the family's life savings in a franchise selling portable bone density scanners. These scanners provide slightly denser pictures than X-rays, but most of the doctors Chris visits find that they are too high-priced. Linda works in a dead-end job in a local hotel laundry. The tension between them mounts as unpaid rent and bills continue to accumulate. Chris often parks his car in disallowed areas so he can make scheduled appointments on time, and after parking tickets remain unpaid, their car is impounded. After missing a shift at her job, Linda finally leaves without their son Christopher, returns briefly, and then departs for New York City, where a better job awaits her, leaving behind the boy at his father's request. Chris accepts an unpaid internship at a brokerage firm Dean Witter Reynolds that promises employment to only one trainee at its conclusion. His lack of salary, and his lack of scanners to try and sell, leaves him riddled with debt, he and his son eventually become homeless. After spending several nights riding buses and sleeping in subway restrooms, saddled with their meager belongings, they begin lining up at the Glide Memorial Church on a daily basis in an effort to secure accommodations for the night. Sometimes they succeed, other times they literally are left out in the cold. As he struggles to provide a semblance of a family life for his son under the most dire of circumstances, Chris becomes more determined to complete the intern program and become the sole trainee the firm will hire. In the end, Chris gets the job and later starts his own brokerage firm in 1987. Then in 2006 he sells a minority of it for a multi-million dollar deal.

2. “The terminal”: this movie is again based on a true story, but not a real true story. The struggle of Viktor navroski of krakosia, as he gets stuck in airport as his country goes to war on the day he land in new York. All efforts made to eliminate from the airport fails and acting of tom hanks is amazing. Though a slow moving movie, it makes people to enjoy the same.

Plot: The Terminal is a 2004 comedy-drama film based on a true story by Andrew Niccol and Sacha Gervasi. The film is co-produced and directed by Steven Spielberg and stars Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta-Jones. It is about a man trapped in the United Airlines/British Airways Terminal 7 at JFK International Airport (though the interior set more closely resembles JFK's Terminal 4) when he is denied entry into the United States and at the same time cannot return to his native country due to a revolution. Some have noted that it appears to be inspired by the story of Mehran Karimi Nasseri, an Iranian refugee who lived in Terminal One of the Charles de Gaulle airport near Paris from 1988 when his refugee papers were stolen until 2006 when he was hospitalized for unspecified ailments. However, no public materials, the DVD "special features", or the film's website mention Nasseri's plight as an inspiration for the film. Despite this, in September 2003, The New York Times noted that Spielberg bought the rights to Nasseri's life story as the basis for the film; and in September 2004 The Guardian noted Nasseri received thousands of dollars from the filmmakers.

3.“The Grid Iron gang” : again a real true story based on the gangster children who are thought the skills and sport of American football is really heart touching. The acting of “Rock” is very much appreciable. It’s a sport movie which was released last year.

Plot: Gridiron Gang is a 2006 film starring Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Xzibit, L. Scott Caldwell, and Kevin Dunn. It was filmed in California at Camp Kilpatrick, a Los Angeles County Probation Department facility. It is loosely based on the true story of the Kilpatrick Mustangs during the 1990 season, the very first in which they played eleven man football. Kilpatrick is a facility located in Malibu, California for juvenile delinquents with multiple offenses, such as murder and gang violence. The overall moral is that even though people deal with difficulties in their lives, these young teenagers overcome their fears and frustrations using self-discipline and learn to leave their problems on the football field .

4. "Forrest Gump":

Tom hanks again, his acting and his story narration in this movie about how he waits for his girlfriend is real treat to watch. I had heard about this movie since a long time, thanks dimps, u made it possible.

Plot: Forrest Gump is a 1994 drama film based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom and the name of the title character of both. The film was a huge commercial success, earning US$677 million worldwide during its theatrical run making it the top grossing film in North America released that year. The film garnered a total of 13 Academy Award nominations, of which it won six, including Best Picture, Best Visual Effects, Best Director (Robert Zemeckis), and Best Actor (Tom Hanks). The film tells the story of a man with an IQ of 75 and his epic journey through life, meeting historical figures, influencing popular culture and experiencing first-hand historic events while being largely unaware of their significance, due to his lower than average intelligence. The film differs substantially from the book on which it was based. This movie is a treat to watch .
5. " Catch Me if You Can":

Leonardo di caprio plays frank de abgnel and this is a real story about Mr. Frank Abagnel who forges cheques and enjpys a rich lifestyle and the way he fools people and enjoys his life is the plot of the movie. I have read the novel, but wanted to watch the movie, finally made it last year. Tom hanks play a role here also, but Leonardo di caprio scores him.

Plot: Catch Me If You Can is a 2002 film set in the 1960s. It was co-produced and directed by Steven Spielberg and adapted by Jeff Nathanson loosely from the 1980 book by Frank Abagnale Jr. and Stan Redding. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks. The movie states that it was inspired by the true life story of Abagnale, but diverges considerably from the real events as reported in his book. The film was a critical and commercial success and is well regarded for John Williams' score and its title sequence created by Kuntzel+Deygas. The lead actors are Leonardo DiCaprio (as Abagnale) and Tom Hanks (as his FBI pursuer), with a supporting role by Christopher Walken (as Abagnale's father). Williams and Walken were nominated for Academy Awards.

6. “The departed”:

Full of superstars, this movie about a cop who is a gangster and the gangster who is a gangster. Matt Damon and Leonardo di caprio along with Jack Nicholson have given us a very good movie. This shows how gangster operates.

Plot: The Departed is a 2006 crime thriller film directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Vera Farmiga, Alec Baldwin, Martin Sheen and Mark Wahlberg. It is an American remake of the 2002 Hong Kong crime thriller Infernal Affairs. The film won four Academy Awards at the 79th Academy Awards, including Best Picture (although there were actually four producers, only Graham King recieved an Oscar).
This film takes place in Boston, Massachusetts, where notorious Irish Mob boss Francis "Frank" Costello (Nicholson) plants his protégé Colin Sullivan (Damon) as an informant within the Massachusetts State Police. Simultaneously, the police assign undercover cop William Costigan, Jr. (DiCaprio) to infiltrate Costello's crew. When both sides of the law realize the situation, each man attempts to discover the other's true identity before being found out.

7.” The Bourne series”:

All these movies are part of the novel where an FBI agent is tried to hunt down, he escapes all along. Matt Damon plays the role of Jason Bourne. This action thriller movie is a treat to watch.
Plot:The novel follows David Webb, alias Jason Bourne, as he works to find his old enemy, Carlos the Jackal, who is trying to kill him. As the Jackal enters old age and his infamy fades, he decides that he will do two things before he dies: kill Webb/Bourne, and destroy the KGB facility of Novgorod, where the Jackal was trained and later turned away. Carlos the Jackal uses a diverse collective of aged men devoted to his handiwork known as "The Old Men of Paris." Webb sends his wife and children to live with his wife's brother, John St. Jacques, in the Caribbean for protection while Webb himself works with old friend and CIA agent Alexander Conklin, and to a limited degree, the CIA, to hunt down and kill the Jackal first. Webb poses as an important member of Medusa (a newer version than the original he was associated with during the Vietnam era) (see Jason Bourne), now a nearly omnipotent economic force that controls the head of NATO, leading figures in the Defense Department, portions of the American and Sicilian mafia, and large NYSE firms. The plan is to use Medusa's resources to contact the Jackal. Webb just misses the Jackal several times, including when the Jackal locates Webb's family in the Caribbean, before Webb stages his own death and convinces the Jackal that he has succeeded. In a final confrontation, the Jackal is finally killed and David Webb returns to his family.
8. "Italian Job":
Plot: The Italian Job is a 2003 heist film, directed by F. Gary Gray. The film stars Jason Statham, Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, Edward Norton, Seth Green, Mos Def and Donald Sutherland. Though it is a remake of the original 1969 film of the same name starring Michael Caine, it has an almost entirely different plot and characters. The film garnered generally favorable reviews, with most critics saying that though it lacked the wit of the original, it was still a fun ride. It was nominated for a total of nine awards, winning four.

9: “The Goal 1 & 2”:

Movie about Santiago Munez who is discovered in US and made to play EPL by Newcastle united player is too good to watch. This movie has OST by Oasis and some good sound tracks and amazing picturisiation and a very good movie not to miss out.

10. “Shaw shank redemption”:

Plot: The Shawshank Redemption is a critically-acclaimed 1994 American drama film, written and directed by Frank Darabont, based on the Stephen King novella, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption. The film stars Tim Robbins as Andy Dufresne and Morgan Freeman as Ellis Boyd "Red" Redding.
The film portrays Andy spending nearly two decades in the cruelty of Shawshank State Prison, a fictional penitentiary in Maine, and his friendship with Red, a fellow inmate. This movie exemplifies the gap between box office success and popularity. Despite receiving lukewarm box office reception and making just enough to cover back its budget, The Shawshank Redemption received favorable reviews from critics and has enjoyed a remarkable life on cable television, home video, and DVD, and continues to be noticed by popular culture fourteen years after its initial release. It is frequently ranked amongst the greatest films of all time, and is currently placed #2 on IMDB's Top 250 list.

11. “BMW Films – The Hire”:

This is a series of short movies which is short with different themes. The BMW cars are used for the films and the action, choreography, Narration and acting are too good to resist. If you want to have a look at it , just download on the net and watch it.
Plot: The BMW film series, The Hire was a series of eight short films (each about eight minutes long, on average) produced for the Internet in 2001 and 2002. A form of branded content, all eight films featured popular directors from across the globe, starred Clive Owen as the "Driver", and highlighted the performance aspects of various BMW automobiles.
The smaller intricacies of each short film's plot differ but one constant remains: Clive Owen plays "The Driver", a man who goes from place to place (in presumably rented BMW automobiles), getting hired by various people to be a sort of transport for their vital needs.

12. “Company “:
Plot: Company is a 2002 Hindi film directed by Ram Gopal Varma, starring Ajay Devgan, Manisha Koirala, Vivek Oberoi (his first film) and Malayalam Superstar Mohanlal. It is a fictional exposé of the Mumbai underworld, loosely based on the Indian mafia organization D-Company known to be run by Dawood Ibrahim. This critically acclaimed movie is regarded as Ram Gopal Varma's best and most mature effort after Satya .

13. “Bheja Fry”:

Plot: Ranjeet Thadani (Rajat Kapoor) is a music producer married to Sheetal (Sarika) a singer. Ranjeet and his friends get together every Friday for a party. This is a different kind of party where they invite a talent who is not so talented and ridicule them behind the scenes. They enjoy doing it so much that they don't even mind missing out on family appointments.
One of Ranjeet's friends meets Bharat Bhushan (Vinay Pathak) on a trip to Pune and decides that he could probably be a source of entertainment for Ranjeet. Ranjeet promptly calls Bharat and invites him for dinner.
Bharat is a talkative self promoting singer who carries with him a scrap book showcasing his musical life. He is excited at the prospect of meeting a music producer which might help advance his career as a singer. Bharat is kind hearted and wants to help everyone but he also has the ability to mess things up for people around him. He can be annoying to the person who is sitting next to him but he makes it a funny experience for everyone else watching him.
Friday arrives but Ranjeet's back is sprained badly and is restricted from moving around. Ranjeet knows that he will not be able to make it to the party but still decides to meet with Bharat to see how good or rather bad he is.

14. “The Namesake”:
Plot: The Namesake describes the struggles between two first generation Indian immigrants, from West Bengal, to the United States, Ashima Ganguli (Tabu) and Ashoke Ganguli (Irfan Khan), and their children, Gogol (Kal Penn) and Sonali (Sonia) (Sahira Nair). The featured locales are Kolkata, India, New York City, Yonkers, and the New York City suburbs of Nyack, Rockland County, Scarsdale, Westchester County and Oyster Bay, Long Island. The story begins as Ashoke and Ashima leave Calcutta and settle in New York City. Through a series of miscues, their son's nickname, Gogol (named after Ukrainian author Nikolai Gogol), becomes his official birth name, an event which will shape many aspects of his life. The film uses Gogol's struggles over his name as a jumping off point to explore large issues of integration, cultural assimilation and identity. The film chronicles Gogol's cross-cultural experiences and his exploration of his Indian heritage, as the story shifts between the United States and India. Gogol eventually meets and falls in love with two women, Maxine (Jacinda Barrett) and Moushumi (Zuleikha Robinson), while his parents struggle to understand his modern, American perspectives on dating, marriage and love. As much as Gogol / Nikhil's experiences, the film tenderly describes the courtship and marriage of Ashima and Ashoke, and the effect of Ashoke's early death of a massive heart attack. Ashima's decision to move on with her life, selling the suburban family home and returning to Calcutta, unifies and ends the film.

15. “My Autograph “:
Plot : This Indian romance begins with the character Senthil (Cheran) setting off on a journey, distributing wedding invitations for his forthcoming wedding. Along the way, he encounters various individuals from his past, who bring back memories of three women that have had an impact on his love life.
It is quite natural for students to get autographs on the last day of their school and college life. But how many of them flip through the autograph book and rewind their memories in the later stages of their life. Autograph, a film, is one such attempt made by director Cheran to rewind the memories of his early childhood and youthful days with spotlight on his romantic escapades. Interestingly with no cinematic touches, Autograph is sure to delight one and all to recall their memories and enjoy the past.
The movie begins with Cheran, who runs an advertising agency, boarding a train to visit his native village to invite all his friends for his wedding.
The journey to his childhood days begins there. The happenings in the school, his tussle with his friends and his first love with his classmate, played by debutante Mallika, are all pictured realistically. Cheran reaches the village and invites all including Mallika, who promises to come to the wedding, with her husband and three children.
Then, he goes to Kerala where he had his college education. His major crush at that time was Gopika, a Malayalee girl, with whom he falls in love but later the affair proves to be short- lived as her parents marry her off to her cousin. On reaching Kerala to invite her, Cheran is shattered to see his lover as a widow.
Meanwhile, he is dejected at the failure of his love affair then and he comes across a trusted friend Sneha, who instils confidence, unearths his hidden talents and teaches him the lesson that one has to go ahead in life without looking back. A poetic narration on the need for a good friend has been stressed.
Towards the end, Cheran gets married to Kanika and all the three girls, who had played a part in his life, and many college friends attend the wedding.
Though the first half is a realistic portrayal, more of dramatic incidents at the end make one feel the movie to be a bit of a drag.

16. “Tarle nan maga”: Comedy at its' best . A kannada movie which was directed by Upendra and Jaggesh is the hero in the film.

17. “America America”: Film about thre close friends. too good to watch.

People who inspire and are my favs

This post is all about the people who are inspirations and my idols. They are truly gems in their field. In all each of them have some way or the other inspired me in my life and helped me to achieve some goals in my life. OK, no more wasting of data lets begin…..

1. Lance Armstrong:
All my life, he will be a true inspiration, many of the Indian people don’t know about this person. One day when I was watching star sports, they told about this amazing cyclist. And How he achieved his cycling glory. He is an amazing sportsperson who overcame his cancer and won tour de France cycling races not 1 or 2, but 7 straight wins. Who can achieve it? He always has been inspiring me in my sporting life.

2. U2:
This music band is one of the famous in the history of music. They are amazing in their music and the charity work they do is even better. The leader of the band “Bono” is all over the place doing good work for the people. By looking their work, it made me to look at people differently. Their music is my partner in my work, to do better I just plug in their songs and I start working, that’s it, it works ……….

3. “Vijay Mallya”:
This flamboyant business man is world famous in India. He single handedly brought F-1 to India; he has his presence in all the felids. He enjoys his life and work. He took over as UB group chairman at the age of 27 and now this industry has strong foothold all over the world. Wherever he puts his hand that venture turns into gold. His flamboyant life and his contribution to sports always make him special. No one in world can have lifestyle like him but the way he works and manages it’s truly amazing.

4. “Steve Jobs & Bill Gates”:
Two gentlemen who changed our lifestyles by providing us the computer soft wares and gadgets are always adoring people. I watched the movie, pirates of Silicon Valley and then I came to know more about these two gentlemen. They struggled in their life to come up and now they are the one to watch out in the market. I also want to become like them ( of course trying harder …….).

5. “Forrest Gump a.k.a Mr. Tom Hanks”:

If you have not watched the films Forrest Gump and terminal, better watch them. It makes you get the feel of this famous Hollywood actor. The films which he has acted have a strong message and al his movies (majority) are based on real life stories. This actor acts and shows how people have struggled in their life to come up. His acting makes me to adore this famous actor.

6. “The wall, Rahul Dravid”:
As the name indicates, he is a great cricketer, but bad luck has not left him since he took as captain of his team. He has given Indian cricket its name and fame; no one was able to question his batting slot in the cricket. People tease me that I am like him when I play cricket. This person gave India the victory that was needed, though people handled him very badly still he remains the best in business. I still remember the argument which I had with one person in interview which cost me my job where he claimed sachin was the best, ultimately I told him how different the wall was from others. But he was adamant that sachin was the best. But Indian cricket will not get a person like him that what I say and argue (sachin is also a great player but he has his own class and spirit).

7.” R.K.Narayan & R.K Laxman”:

( Cartoon done by R.K.Laxman)
These brothers have given India the Malgudi and the common man. Useless Indian government they even can’t honor these two people with the highest civilian award. Narayan’s “Malgudi days” is my best book and the characters and the way he has shown the life of people is really wonderful and mind blowing. Because of this person i started to read books and his books are my fav’s whenever I win a prize at event where I get gift certificates to purchase book I make sure that one book will be his. Laxman is an amazing cartoonist who makes the whole of India laugh and the way he writes is also makes us think about it seriously. His common man adored the “Air deccan “flights. The person still writes cartoons every day at a very old age, true spirit and a great gesture for the people of India. These two gentlemen were residents of Mysore.

8. Rowan Atkinson a.k.a Mr. Bean :
He makes you laugh at any day and at any situation, he came into acting with a science degree and he making people laugh by his acting. He is an amazing acting which Britain has discovered. If you want to know more about him just watch Mr. Bean.

There are many more to tell but I think its more for me to describe every one, but the photos of them are here ( will post after some days) , just enjoy the reading and the photos. You can just drop in your comments.

My Music collection and the songs I Love to listen ......

I do love listening to music as other people do, I am a music freak and the collection describes it all. It all started in my college days when I some day accidentally heard English music in one of my friends comp ( that time comp was a expensive thing to have). In my house we had a Sony music system. Cassettes were purchased when needed, it was limited to only devotional and some OST of Hindi and kannada cinema.

My first music cassette was of backstreet boys in 1998, which I got it for 100 Rs. This band was a craze at that time. Also some other English music cassettes started to floow. Some through gifts and some prizes also. When comp came to my place I had been supplied the mp3’s by dimps and bhatta.it was when I started listening music seriously in my engineering days that I got addicted to English music. At that time I do listened to only pop music and some limited artists. After my engineering I started to listen more and more, I realized the power of music when I was alone, also in my free time I was doing nothing then I realized how really good the music is, so I started to collect more and more mp3’s now till date I have more than 5K English songs of various artists, not to forget other language songs are also in my collection. I do get the inputs on artists from my friends. Now that I am addicted to music I have my music player “Zune” the 30 GB one, this is my 3rd music gadget, earlier I had a Chinese player and a sandisk sansa player. I do listen to music when I am driving eating working and when in front of comp. I am so addicted to music that I can’t live without it. of course in future some priorities will make me change.

BTW I have been inspired by many artists. Some artists I adore and listen to their collection, in this post I say why I like them and whats so special about them.
  1. "U2": my favorite band and till date I have some 200 songs of them. Gem of a band they always produce really amazing music. Songs like “Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own”, “stuck in a moment”, “ground beneath her feet” and many more are always listenable at any moment. If I am feeling down, immediately switch on to their music which will rejuvenate me. Also this band is making lot of work in charity work, which makes them to stand apart. Till date they are my best band and I have no words to explain them.
  2. “The bee gees”: the Gibb brothers of Australia have always given the world some “real hits” their song staying alive was the first song I listened of this band and then I started to have their songs collection. Their voice lyrics and the amazing talent makes me to adore them.

  12. "A.R Rahman" : The Indian musician who has given long list of hits in Indian film industry is my fav Indian musician . his song “Yeh Jo Des Hai Tera” is really wonderful to listen. His “national Anthem collection “is too good.

Some golden rules that I have learnt in my life... (Based on the inputs I have got from my friends and also my own experience)

People say life is short, make it sweet. It’s true. There are some events that happen in our life which will teach us a lesson and make us to be better or make us realize that we have done is wrong or right. People may achieve something or may loose something valuable in their life which they are attached to most. Here are some rules, rather I would say some inputs that people can adopt in their life if they feel it ok with them. It is not just the experience of mine but also the inputs I have got from many of the people whom I have met.

1. At any stage of your life, never be alone, it is like a demon, and it will kill you.
2. When you falter at the first step, take it as a positive step and think that there’s lot to come and do better.
3. When you are right, always stand by it whatever people might say, at some stage they will agree that you are right and will support you.
4. When you are alone at a good cause, never be afraid of people trying to hurt you. It happens at every stage; when you are doing good work people try to dig faults. Carry on, take the criticism in a positive manner and will always help you to do good even more.
5. When you are depressed try to listen to some music, especially inspirational or slow music. It will help somewhat to relax. If not try to talk to self, it definitely works.
6. Always smile  , and people think that you are crazy let it be. Spread smile and be happy.
7. When people betray you, take it easily never be depressed. It’s a chance for you to make more friends and make them realize how much worth you are.
8. If your success is not recognized by people don’t be sad. Do better and better someday you will be recognized. Don’t do any work for accolades rather do it for your fun, really you will enjoy. 9. Don’t live your life for others life for yourself, be the “Hero of the Day”.
10. Always give constructive feedback to your peers and friends, which can make them happy.
11. When traveling alone have music player with you will really enjoy of course a camera will also do.
12. Keep yourself engaged at all times this will help you to avoid depression. Keep dreaming it helps you to be active. Share knowledge it helps you to learn better and keep discovering.

There are many more things to put here, but I thought these are some of the points which I can write. People might say I am preaching, but its not the case. It is just keeping me engaged and sharing some experiences which I have faced.

Why did I start running?????

It’s the opposite question which is always being asked by many of the people who know me, Thanuj have u stopped running? The obvious answer now is “Yes” , cause I have been plagued with bloody back pain and no time to do such activities as I am working like a dog at Mysore office.

I was a good athlete in my school and college days, people used to now me by the virtue of my running. Long story is there why I became an athlete, this post says about it. Hopefully people will have time to read this post.

Long back when I was in class 5 , I was not interested in sports, just school and my room was my life. One fine day in middle school (Avila convent), where I was studying, there was a selection for the zonal level sports, I was interested to participate for the selection, the even was high jump. I was scared of jumping higher, but that was the only sport where they did not have any athletes, so selection started and I failed to clear the first hurdle it self , that was it , I thought it was not my cup of tea , so I did not go for further jumping. Then again in class 6 and 7 I was overpowered by some good athletes and was not included in the squad. But there was a glimmer of hope, I was playing kho-kho and I was included in the team when I was in class 6th, that was my starting and then I never looked back. Though always failure is the step towards success, it started with a loss for me on my debut match. But as life goes on success came on. In class 7 I was a regular member of my schools kho-kho team and was in the soccer team. The first taste of success came after I helped my team to clear the zonal level matches by providing vital passes and helping my team to score goals. This was in class 7, though the kho –kho game was not in any full swing we kept on loosing matches, but I was still a good player. I was staying with my grand parents till class 10th and my uncle was like a villan, he was not allowing me to participate in any extra curricular activities, y people are like this, I wondered, seriously I had to escape all the tortures and torments to participate in sports, believe it or not I struggled a lot to keep myself in sports. Many hurdles came for me but as people say “Fortune favors the brave”, it happened to me. My team though lost in the city level football match that was not the end of the story for us. They lost because of poor selection and idiotic decisions.

I joined Marimallappa’s for my high school, this school had a good playing field and there was class matches from the beginning of the year where all classes played in many sports. It was very good and my sport career revived here. I started in kho-kho and also was in soccer team. But I was still interested in running. I was not selected for the school team as I failed to qualify the selections in class 8. One fine day I visited Oval grounds (university ground), one person (LIC employee), who was coming for daily practice asked me to run 5 rounds with him. Enthusiasm was on my side, I ran the entire length with him, he was very much eager to say, u can do better y can’t u start practicing? I was also interested, but there were hurdles at my place, I was supposed to reach my home by 5PM. But wanted to give a try, that’s how my long distance career started. My father said to my uncle that I was supposed to be allowed to go for the practice. It was a window of hope. I began going to oval grounds every day after my school and started practicing. There was one person called Mr. Gopal raje urs( he is now no more), he was coaching some athletes, some how accidentally I met him and he stated to give tips and helped to increase my speed and skills in running. I started practicing middle distance running as I was not so fast to run 100or 200 mts sprint. Thanks coach for making me such a good runner, as a tribute to him I dedicate my Chennai marathon prize to him as he passed away just before that event in 2004. The first prize came for me in the school completions, it was in the 200 mts running category, I was very much happy to win the event in midst of 20-30 participants. That gave me hope that I can do better in sports. Also by that time I was free to participate in sports as I had been given full freedom to go for practicing.

By class 9 I was known as a good middle distance runner in the school, I now was a permanent member of my school’s athletic team. No one challenged my spot in 1500,300 mts for the next 9 years at any spot. All people knew that I was a good runner, but unfortunately I was not able to win any medal in the inter school events. But a glimmer of hope came when I won the road race event organized at Mysore, I was an outsider for the event and there were 200 participants in the race, I overpowered them all and won the prize, that was the best run until then by me, that’s how I got noticed. Though it got a recognition for me but still a inter school competition prize was missing. That came during the dasara competitions, there was a step climbing competions held at Mysore , I won 2nd prize in that. I was very much happy that things started starting to fall on the right places.

I had to wait until class 10th to get my first inter school prize, I got the prize in 3000mts run, I made it to the district level sports, that was it, my prize collection era started, I also was the team member( of course starting team) which participated in the city level kho- kho championships, As I was a very good middle distance runner, I was a automatic choice for the kho-kho team. As I was a good athlete people thought that I would win the individual championships in the school games in the class 10th but still that was not to happen as I was not able to make it. Also I won prizes at road races and in hill climbing competitions. I was improvising on my running skills. When I left the high school I was satisfied that I had achieved something in sports.

I joined the same institute for college studies. I was again a automatic choice for the college athletic team, now my responsibility was increased as I was a team member of the relay team, this team enjoyed success for 2 years as the second best team. All the team members were coming for practice to the grounds and were coached by the same coach. I also made to district sports in these two years. The prizes started to rain. In the college sports day, finally I achieved what was missing from my rack, the individual championships. Finally I got it in class 11; also I was a team member of the kho-kho team that was runner up in the championships that our college hosted.

In class 12 the success continued, though I missed to achieve individual championship, but I had cemented my place in the distance running and also I was good at kho-kho. But the tragedies started the loss of our team in the kho- kho match made us fell down also the biggest disappointment of all was the loosing of 3rd place which we achieved in 400 mts relay. I ran the race of my life to get my team into second place, but when we finished 3rd we were informed that the baton exchange in the last leg had been wrongly done and we were eliminated. It was such a disappointment for me personally as I failed to win a medal (believe it or not I did not get medal until I won the Chennai marathon, that was the only medal I got in my entire athletic career. I do have medals in the intra school college events but I was given certificates as a prize and some utensils only).

When I came to engineering , it seemed to be all stopped for a moment, as I was not going to practice and a long break in the class 12 made me idle as I was busy with the exam stuff and of course it I s the most important part of your life to decide what you want to become. Luckily the huge plot near my house provided the space for practice, the CFTRI land which is nearly 2 km in stretch was being used by some people play cricket match apart from that this land was not being used by any one at that time except for grazing cows. I began to practice in this ground which revived my athletic career in engineering. Of course there was disappointment at that time, I missed representing my college due to lack of information passing, the first VTU meet was missed by means no one provided the information for the meet. I saw it one day on the notice board, unfortunately the time was over. So I had to wait one more year after that. By that time our college appointed PED, he was a nice fellow who still encourages people to come up in sports. I found the right person; he was very helpful for all the sports person, he himself a sportsperson who has represented university and Karnataka in kabaddi game proved too good for us. I met this person when he joined the college and said my supports for the events are always there. Of course he nodded and until today if any help is needed, he contacts me or I contact him.

The college sports day was organised by the students in the first and second year, both the years there was only a few events with me sweeping all the events , there was only one prize in the event I participated, 1st , there was no one to beat me , I had achieved what any other student in the college was not able to achieve. In 3rd year , I participated in the VTU sports met, luckily it was held at Mysore. That time I got the chest number 444, still I have the chest number with me as a mark of the places I achieved in the events. My batch mates expected me to do well in that meet , of course I also expected the same. The first event was 800 mts, I ran the race of my life again and was 2nd in qualifying, good result though. But all tragedies start after good things, in finals I was left behind and due to lack of strategy I lost out in the final stretch thus claiming 4th spot, this was a heartbreak, again I lost out a chance to win a medal L. But I was not disappointed; I still ahead 1500 mts and triple jump to work out with. The 1500 mts was again a tragedy, though it was a good qualifying for me, due to negligence of the line umpires, I lost out and claimed 4th place. I literally blasted all the line officials for not looking out for the fouls, that was a sad ending to my running event that year, I again managed to get 4th place in the triple jump, though I was not expecting any magic here. Thus the 444 chest number gave me 444 position in the first university meet I attended, but I was very satisfied that I was able to break the existing meet records in the events which I participated. All the disappointment came to an end when I completely sweeped all the athletic events in the college sports meet. There was no one to challenge me I was gaining in confidence. I am not boasting of myself here, but it was the result of my hard work, that’s it.

In the final year , the athletic meet was held at SIT , tumkur, believe it or not my chest number here was “555”, how come they chose this number for me??? The moment I got my chest number I knew, this meet will also screw me, it happened like that only. I managed to secure 5 place in 800mts event after performing brilliantly in the qualifying, the 1500 mts was a tragedy, every one expected that I will be in top 3 but one idiot who became my M.Tech class mate spoiled my entire race, he blocked me all way long thus preventing me from overtaking and finally I overpowered him in the last stretch but it was too late to win the third place. I knew that it would be the last race of my life as a student and I was determined to make it a memorable one, but it ended in tears, for the second successive year i managed 4th place in this event. I cried a lot after the event as one guy ruined the most memorable event of mine. But the tragedy was yet to come, the event that ended my sporting life. It was the triple jump , the last morning of the event the triple jump event was held and I was eager to make it amongst top 5 in the event, though it happened, but I was injured in this event, wrong footing caused me to loose the grip on landing and that hurt and my back pain began, the damage was serious as I had a nerve damage, which is still hurting me and I cant be so active as I was during that time, I cant bear the pain , after that I have been very less active in sports and I don’t give my back too much work as it has already given me the shock of my life. Though I managed to finish my engineering sports career with a high as once again, I demolished my opponents in the college sports meet by winning first prizes in 8 events that I participated. I signed off with a high and I was identified as one of the best sports person of that year. It was a remarkable gift after 9 long years, though I didn’t win any sporting medals form my college and my self, but I was regarded as a threat to the opponents. I was also regarded as a very good fielder in the cricket team and I was contributing to my team in saving runs, they were taking me to save runs, still today, I do the same for my team. I showed the same during the tournament organized by my company I contributed through my bowling and my fielding. That’s my style of playing cricket. The slim and athletic body still helps me to dive very easily and makes me to be fit.

After my engineering I didn’t not participate in any competitive racing, though I wanted to due to my back pain, but I was active in sports by participating in the events of soccer and cricket. The revival of my athletics came in Chennai, December 2003 was the year and I participated in the Chennai corporate marathon, I was a outsider there and I was sure that I would win a prize. My roommate kirthi there supported me to participate in the race and without practice I ran that race. It was a 5 KM race and had 8K as first prize. I started the race as usually what I used to do in my racing events, I surged ahead and kept pace with the leader, but without practice I was having trouble and the humidity of Chennai started to take its toll, I was stopping in middle and then running, it was hurting me as I was cursing myself. I was a good athlete once upon a time and now I was not bale to run 5 KMs what a shame, I thought and then made up my mind to finish the race, my body and my back was not allowing me to do so, but again , I was determined to make it up. I had slipped to 5th position at that time, slowly I made up the ground and regained 3rd position, 8K was on my mind, but when I reached near the target , it had vanished as the leader was way ahead and I was not able to catch him , now 4K seemed to be a distant dream , I always remember and my idol is lance Armstrong , I wonder how this guy overcame cancer and won 7 tour de France titles, I wish I could have been his team mate. He inspires me a lot during my sporting times, I ran and ran and came second in the race, a true achievement in my sporting career, the only time I have ever won a medal in any competitions that I participated. A silver medal , one to show in my showcase. I dedicated this win to my coach who was no more at that time as he had passed away due to an heart attack, by that time people had driven him out of the ground due to some differences, what an ending to the great coach who had produced many sportspersons. That day was one of the finest days in my sporting, rather running career, I was able to win some huge cash. That was the last race of my life I thought but it had to be revived back as I ran the cross-country event for SJCE when I did my M.Tech , I fared very poorly as I had no practice during that time. But I signed off my competitive racing career in 2006 with a poor finish in the event, though it happens, but I was satisfied that I had done a lot in the athletics career of mine. This is all about my racing days , that’s why people ask are u still running as they identify me as a running machine, the person who never stops.

I started athletics for fun and then took it seriously, there was always obstruction from many sides to stop it , but my parents supported it and I was able to run and run ( not like Forrest Gump ). There were days when I was not able to win any prizes but all of them did not matter me as I always showed the sportsmanship. I was also not included in any of the team events due to either politics or due to my structure, it made to grow stronger and I showed them all in my running career, I was untouchable and I was challenging people “ Catch me if u can “ . but there are some sad moments that I had during my racing career, the way I was cheated of a medal in both the university meets , the day when I hurt my back . but some sweet moments cover them all which includes, winning my first road race, becoming individual champion in the college athletic meet. Becoming a permanent and a default member in the college athletic team for 6 straight years, it is really special. Also some shocking moments were also there, I still remember how I parked my cycle and immediately stopped the race which was supposed to begin and ran that race.

I have achieved a lot , though it may not seem big to many people in my terms what ever effort that I put in got results, I want to still start running and run some marathons, but bloody time is not on my side, I am still to begin it , but some day I will start and always I say , “I will be back “ and I have done that , so people can expect me to start m running career once again , then when people ask are you still running , then the answer will be “yes” . I have no photos to show here, but my trophy collection also I missing and is now hidden in a carton box in the go down as there is no place to store them in my showcase. Some day I will update in the blog. That’s it folks abt my running career, waiting to be revived back.

How can a quiz be so dumb ???

Hello fellas , I am writing this post to say how people are so dumb and how the quizzing can be so ugly.
This happened at my companies greatest “corporate” quiz ( I don’t say that it’s a corporate quiz , it’s a quiz for dumb asses” ) I am very strong here, after seeing the quiz I am writing the comments , how can they be so dumb that simplest of simplest q’s went unanswered.

It was a quiz where I stood out and argued that the quiz is not properly organized, I knew that quiz was messed up, even many active quizzers joined me and suggested them to change the patterns and the way it was organized. But dumb organizers, who dot know the scent of quizzing wee never ready to budge. Of course I say those are the ******** , the quiz was webcasted. Bloody what a waste of money.

Derek o brein associate had organised this quiz, the quiz after being seen , made me to say that Derek o brein has lost the sense of quizzing. Though he was not there, his associate who organized the quiz made us to agree that the quiz was one of the worst in Indian history.

The quiz had some 25 prelims q’s it seems , one of my colleague told me, dumb people 16 was the highest, all easy questions, even a high school kid would have scored 20+ in this. The people who were there the best of our company it seems ( I don’t know who said that, useless fellow, I know many good quizzers were eliminated by dumb quizzing which is not authentic in any means, they would have put a wrath on the quiz organizers )

The finals began with some dumb and crazy speech by the quiz master (Adrian scolt), what a way t start the quiz be asking all people to stand up and do yoga. Is this a way to start quiz???? All quizzers listen here, u follows this idea from now onwards. The 18 participants were called on stage and as per the quiz master auction happened and 6 tams were formed, what a hapless way of quizzing and forming teams. At Mysore some 30 people were watching it started to curse the quiz master , of course he was wasting some precious time.

Then all the best so called, assembled and occupied the seats , the first round was identify the person round , how come the quiz master ask a question where one clue was ( the first clue) he was the judge of Mumbai court , god on earth how many have become judges of the court , people have to guess it seems, one of the question was on JRD Tata , where the teams were unable to identify even after all the 3 clues were given.

The quiz had the usage of copyrighted material at will , all round names were dedicated to SRK , and questions were below standard and no team were competent enough to answer any of the questions. Of course the quiz master was also dumb he was not at all knowing to which team he was asking the question , claming t o have done 300 + quizzes , he cant act so dumb o stage, where he doesn’t know which team was asked the question. Pls don’t do this else where.

The 6 onstage teams were so dumb that some of the silly things they made were, guessing Timberlake’s voice as voice of Madonna, celine dion , shaan ….
Guessing shaun tait as Indian cricketer, also many silly answers which ould have made genuine quizzers to think how dumb the quizzing culture is present in the company they are working. Of course the team which won the quiz was also no was exception, they were lucky t o win the quiz.

I still crtiticse the rounds which the quiz master kept in the quiz . one of the round was showing 2 pictures and asking the teams to fill in the blanks with the words formed by the two pictures? How the hell can they do these thing in a GK quiz , is it a company’s entrance test??? Also some of the questions were so dumb that even there was no scent of the GK there. The quiz has all sports questions relating to IPL and cricket ONLY, boss there are other sports also. And some GK questions were not a standard one , they were doing quiz in the manner of some comedy show .

I was amazed that why people criticize Derek o brein associates , it was a live demo of that, I personally never expected that this quiz would e so dumb in all the aspects , but it failed to match the expectation of the employees , any how the dumbest of the dumbest team will win a trip to Denmark , so unlucky….

Any ways one more quiz will be held by Derek himself. Finally it went on well with some good questions and some good and dumb answering; the most irritating part in the finals was some idiot guy laughing like a dumb ass in the microphone. Seriously ,he did not have any common sense at all , he was screaming for all the dumb saying of Derek, it was just like sorry I don’t want to say any thing abt it , it’s a waste of time and space in my blog. The teams were still dumb to answer some tricky questions, Derek had been given instruction by the organizers it seems, he revolved his quiz on only Hindi film industry and some repeated questions which are asked in has quizzes, he was also very eager to make the organizers to distribute free t shirts. One good thing ion the quiz was very good questions which was liked by me personally. but one more suggestion to derk , pls have some good questions in near future in your quizzes, I know there I s a lot of effort that goes on to research the Q’s, but when you are organizing quizzes ,maintain some good quizzing levels like Arul and avinash do . Seriously I enjoy their quizzes more than yours.

Alas this is it, the quiz which was supposed to be won by my team (Bala, me and Sandesh were the team supposed to be on stage) which we never made it due to some internal politics and dumb hosting and crappy rules. Hoping for some more quizzes of a better organized one in near future.

One more Quiz @ Mysore

One fine day in mid May, my HR (Cripa) calls me and asks, can you do a quiz event for us? I was shocked. I knew that this location was not at all alive and kicking; also there were no interested people to attend quiz events as they were too busy with their work, so I thought twice. Then said ok as I wanted to show them what quizzing is. Before this unfortunately , the dumb quiz was organized by our company which had me fuming and me blasting the organizers , I always tell that quizzing is a difficult thing to organise as the preparation takes more time and also some ground work needs o be done.

I asked Cripa to provide me the last year’s paper so that I can start preparing my Q’s. But that never came, so I was not at all waiting for that. Let it be, I had an idea to start with , let me do a warm-up round where the visual questions shall be asked to all the people , where they will be sending the answers , this was of course non googlable,. The idea was accepted by the HR’s and then I started with the Q’s were where tough, the first day’s feedback was, it was difficult to answers all the Q’s, So I was told to reduce the level of difficulty (of course, if these Q’s were put up in blogs, all would have been cracked). So then I had to reduce the difficulty of the Q’s, then also they found it tough to answer all the Q’s , said to Cripa that this was the easiest possible questions I can set , then one suggestion came up saying that the dry questions can be given , I was against it , but no go I wanted teams for the quiz , so it was to be accepted. So sports round had the dry questions, which were easy for them to Google.

In Bangalore when I did quiz for Infotech, we had a road show in every floor where we were asking some questions to generate interest in the people, here also we decided to do so, it was an opportunity for me to show how I am interested in quizzing and also to make new faces to talk to me ( as Anish was about to leave and KP will soon leave Mysore ). The day started with my questions firing to the audience and many were answering them, also were getting chocolates for the right answers, Also my quiz advertising was getting done. So this was bit successful in some ways.

On June 3rd the quiz was supposed to be held , again this was a postponed date( I wonder , when my company people will stick to their dates , I have experienced the same since my college days, every time they give one date and finally postpone it .). The prelims started with all the teams assembling I the conference room , good for the first time all were ready and eager to face the questions. I knew that my quizzing level had to be low since they were new people attending the quiz. Questions were easy and there were 15 teams in the prelims, good number though when u have 180 employees in the location. I was thinking why I didn’t have the same response at Bangalore. There 24 teams came for 1000+ employees.

For the first time in my quiz all the teams score 4+ points, not even the last team scored less than 5, well for them. I had prepared quiz finals for 5 teams with some spare Q’s , after seeing the reposes I talked to Cripa and said , I will have 6 teams for the finals ,for which she said yes. So 6 teams were ready for the finals. Anish and KP missed out by 3 points of course they were very sad when they heard that they have lost out.

Finals stared with some 40 + audience coming to see the quiz. Good response for the quiz. There were 3 teams from the infenion dept and 3 from the games team. Good competition was there in the finals , of course I have always messed things at one stage or the other , here it happened in the last round of derailer ,where one team was asked 2 Q’s and one answer was wrong which cost one of the teams the first prize.

The audience sat through the quiz, once again the quiz had impressed them, the question were bit standard, though it was workable, in all over 70% of the questions were cracked. I was satisfied at the end. Though it went as tone more quiz which I did for free, other than that I was able to make an impact on the people and show them I am still the active quizzer @ lnt Infotech. I would like to say special thanks to Anish and KP who did the slide handling and the scoring.
